Good body position and posture are very important for practicing meditation. And unlike most of us think, sitting crossed legs on the ground isn’t the only position to practice meditation. 

While many believe that the seated meditation position is best, some of us often struggle sitting with crossed legs. That’s why we decided to share the best meditation positions in 2022.

Below are the 6 best positions for practicing meditation in 2022.

Lying down meditation

While seated meditation is best to practice at all places, some practitioners feel discomfort while meditating in this position due to back pain and other health conditions. Lying down meditation is perfect for people who feel discomfort while sitting for meditation. 

Lie down on your back with legs about hip-apart, arms extended alongside your body, and toes relaxing out to the side.

Standing meditation

Meditation is all about mindfulness, relaxation, and reducing negative emotions. Since a lot of us nowadays spend majority time in a sitting position, it’s good to practice meditation in a standing position. Stand straight with feet hip to shoulder width apart. Keep your knees slightly bent. Place both hands on your belly to feel the inhale and exhale while meditating.

Kneeling meditation

This meditation pose is perfect for people who are comfortable kneeling down. It helps in keeping the back straight while meditating. Here’s how to do it: 

Place your ankles below your hips and keep your shins flat on the floor. If you are struggling to sit in this position, then you can also place a pillow between your hips and ankles.

Walking meditation

Focusing on what’s going around while walking hits different. But don’t worry, you don’t need to keep your eyes closed while doing walking meditation. Keep your eyes wide open and catch a walking pace that suit you. Now, shift your attention to the environment and try to find yourself in the beauty of nature.

It is perfect for people who stay busy the whole day in sedentary jobs. Practice it wherever you have a few minutes. 

Seated meditation

Another meditation position for people with open hips and no pain in the joints. It is an ancient way of meditating that allows unrestricted flow of prana throughout the body. Here’s how to perform this meditation pose: 

Sit down on the ground by placing each foot into the opposite thigh. Placing both feet on opposite thighs helps in getting a better position for practicing meditation.

You can also lean against a wall or cushion while extending your legs out in front of you to feel more comfortable. 

Chair-sitting meditation

Sit on a chair or sofa in a comfortable position. Keep your feet on the floor or keep your legs crossed. Now, place your both hands on your legs or on the lap. If you are uncomfortable while sitting on a chair for a long time, it is best to place a soft pillow behind your lower back or under your hips.

You can also practice this meditation technique while sitting on your office chair or while traveling on a bus, car, or airplane.
